Historical Tour of Fairbury



Jefferson County Courthouse
Built in 1891 by stonecutters from England who cut the stones by hand. There are five offices with old ceramic tile-fronted fireplaces and two offices with marble-topped washstands. An antique, unique courtroom is worth a visit. The town clock on four sides of the dome has tolled the hour since 1910. Open from 9-5 pm Monday-Friday, closed holidays.

Rock Island Depot
This attractive building was built in 1914 and is undergoing renovation and restoration by the Jefferson County Historical Society. Tours are available. Contact Glen Zabel (402) 729-6469.

Rock Creek Station State Historical park with visitors' center, campgrounds, picnic area, foot and horse trails, swinging bridge, rebuilt log buildings depicting the early 1860's station and Pony Express stop. Ruts of the Oregon Trail can be seen here.
